School Day is celebrated in Brazil on March 15 to remember the importance of education in the formation and development of a citizen for society. School Day is a date created with the aim of paying homage to schools for their paramount importance to society.

On this date, March 15, 1827, the first legal document on the organization of public education in Brazil was instituted, called Imperial Law No. 2,040, known as the Ruy Barbosa Law. This law laid the foundations for the creation of schools in all the country's cities and towns, guaranteeing access to primary education for all Brazilians.

The school is a place where reading and writing are taught, as well as more specific areas of education. But in addition to this, schools aim to promote the socialization of children and adolescents, as they give them the opportunity to relate to people from different cultures, habits, beliefs and ethnicities. For 9th grader Alessandro Muniz from Ronaldo Lameira school, “School is where I have contact with people from different social backgrounds, which is very good for socializing and making friends.”

The importance of this date is to show the role that school plays in the development of all individuals, teaching them to read, write and delve into various subjects, as in Antonio G. Lacerda's phrase, “Education is priceless. Its lack has a cost”.

Schooling is extremely important if an individual is to achieve a solid future in social and professional matters. That's why it's also essential to learn how important it is for building the trajectory of each citizen. School and a good education are fundamental for intellectual and social development, enabling the individual to build a good professional career.

As well as teaching, school helps to promote socialization, giving people the opportunity to relate to people from different social backgrounds, religions, ethnicities and cultures.
