Book Day falls on April 23rd. This day was chosen because it is the death date of three great writers in history: William Shakespeare, Miguel de Cervantes and Inca Garcilaso de La Vega. To commemorate this date, 5th grade teacher Luciana decided to start a project to create a book with her students. The project consists of encouraging reading and improving the students' writing skills. Luciana has issued a sort of “reading passport” which works as follows: the students have to read books and summarize their stories. With each book read, the teacher marks the passport with a stamp. The student with the most stamps at the end of the year receives a prize.

The class also has a mascot in the classroom, the puppet Guidolino. Each pupil takes Guidolino home for a period and in the meantime, they have to write about what they did with the puppet during that time.

In an interview, teacher Luciana says that she came up with the idea of doing this project with her students because she had done it before and it had worked out very well. “They've been my students since last year and have always enjoyed reading. They're the kind of students who, if I say 'let's go'? They're up for it!”
